Radiation Detection Solutions (RDS) was formed for the purpose of developing and commercializing an inexpensive micro-scale, real-time, tissue-equivalent radiation detection system called the Solid State Tissue Equivalent Detector, or SSTED. The SSTED is constructed from organic materials and detects all forms of ionizing radiation. The applications for the SSTED include monitoring exposure to military personnel and first responders, at nuclear power plants, in hospital, in-vivo, and even for commercial space travel.

The SSTED prototype has been tested by the Sandia National Laboratories and, in 2019, was awarded a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant by the National Science Foundation.
